Right-click the Desktop and choose Use Stacks, then send screenshots and downloads somewhere else so it stops filling up.
Tidy it with Stacks
- Right-click an empty part of the Desktop and choose Use Stacks.
- Choose Group Stacks By › Kind or Date Added to change how files are grouped.
Stop it filling up
- Press ⇧⌘5, click Options and choose another Save to location, so screenshots stop landing on the Desktop.
- Save downloads to the Downloads folder, not the Desktop (Safari › Settings › General › File download location).
- Once a day, move the few files worth keeping into a real folder and move the rest to the Trash.
With dragand
Instead of saving things to the Desktop "for now", drop them on dragand's Hold zone. You get the same one-drag access, and the copies clear themselves after 24 hours.
