dragand vs Maccy

Maccy is a free, open-source clipboard manager that lives in the menu bar and pastes for you. dragand is first a file shelf for drag and drop, with an optional private clipboard history alongside it. If you only want clipboard history, Maccy is hard to beat on price; if you also move files around all day, dragand does both in one place.

Where each fits

Different apps for different habits.

Where dragand fits better

  • Files and clipboard in one place. The same panel holds the files you drag around and everything you copied. One shortcut each, one app to learn.
  • No Accessibility permission. dragand copies the item and lets you paste with ⌘V, so it never needs control of your keyboard or other apps.
  • Encrypted, and nothing synced. History is stored encrypted on your Mac with the key in your Keychain, and never leaves it.

Where Maccy is the better pick

  • Free and open source. Maccy costs nothing and its code is public. If clipboard history is all you need, that matters.
  • Pastes for you. Maccy can paste straight into the app you were in, one step fewer than copy-then-⌘V.
  • Sync between Macs. Maccy's optional iCloud sync carries your history between your own Macs. dragand doesn't sync.
