In Finder press ⌥⌘L to open Downloads, then sort by Date Added so the newest file is on top.
Open Downloads and sort it
- In Finder, press ⌥⌘L to open the Downloads folder.
- Choose View › Sort By › Date Added. The newest download is now first.
Keep Downloads in the Dock
- Right-click the Downloads folder on the right side of the Dock (drag it there from Finder if it is missing).
- Choose Sort by › Date Added, and Display as › Stack or Folder. Click it any time for your latest files.

Drop a download you'll need in a moment on dragand's Hold zone: it's on the shelf, one drag away, and the copy clears itself after 24 hours.
