How-to

How to take a screenshot straight to the clipboard on a Mac

Press ⌃⇧⌘4, select an area, and the screenshot is copied to the clipboard instead of saved; paste it with ⌘V.

Copy part of the screen

  1. Press ⌃⇧⌘4 and drag to select an area.
  2. Paste it with ⌘V into a message, an email or a document. No file is saved.

Copy the whole screen

  1. Press ⌃⇧⌘3, then paste with ⌘V.

Make it the default

  1. Press ⇧⌘5, click Options and choose Clipboard under Save to.

With dragand

With dragand's clipboard history on, screenshots you copy are kept with everything else you copied, so an image from earlier is still there after you copy something new.
