How-to

How to undo moving a file in Finder

Press ⌘Z in Finder straight after the move; the file goes back where it was.

Undo the last move

  1. In Finder, press ⌘Z or choose Edit › Undo Move right after the move.

Undo works on the most recent actions in Finder, so do it before you move on to other files.

Put back from the Trash

  1. Open the Trash from the Dock.
  2. Select the file and choose File › Put Back. It returns to the folder it was deleted from.

With dragand

Every drop, keep and removal in dragand comes with Undo, and Put Back returns a kept file to the exact folder it came from, even days later.
